Most law firms have pro bono programs, which enable firm attorneys to take on a variety of pro bono matters. Generally speaking, firms employ a "pro bono manager", or a team of such managers, to administer such pro bono programs. These managers are sometimes practicing attorneys. Work involved with administering a pro bono program includes: (1) maintaining relationships with Pro Bono Legal Service Providers (e.g. ACLU, Legal Aid Society, etc.), from which they source pro bono opportunities, (2) informing attorneys of these opportunities, (3) staffing attorneys on pro bono matters, (4) managing the onboarding process of new pro bono matters (e.g. ensuring conflicts checks are run, having accounting/finance open a new client-matter number, etc.), (5) keeping track of ongoing matters and providing status updates to the Pro Bono Legal Service Providers, and (6) ensuring that attorneys have access to appropriate training materials, templates, etc.
This template provides such pro bono managers with a space to streamline the types of work listed above. Typically, the site would be administered by the pro bono manager(s), and would include other administrators such as the Conflicts Checks team and Accounting/Finance. The core user group would be attorneys who are interested in taking on pro bono work.
